“We are what we eat and this motto seems increasingly gaining prominence in our food references. But in the rush of everyday life, and especially when we cook for a large number of people (each one with its particularly taste and appetite) it is difficult to be healthy and creative! The truth is that we must turn the food into our greatest allie without being diet slaves and with no fundamentalist ideas, we must use food as a precursor tool of our health and well-being but it is not always easy to adapt these concepts to a family meal! :)

Everyone asks me the recipes of the dishes I cook and most of the time there is no recipe, I love cooking in free-style, but I found it essential to have some cookbooks. I use them when I have more free time to cook or just to inspire my daily cooks. :) And that's why I love Jamie, I see all his TV shows, I read all his books, it is inspiring and not complicated.

I had already spoken about my holy bibles of food and today I add one more book to the list, Super Food Family Classics by Jamie Oliver. I am IN-LOVE with this book !!! *. *

This is a book that is, in a way, the continuationof the Everyday Super Food: the focus is on healthy eating without guilt, without restriction and with valuable nutritional tips, easy to apply on the day to day. The difference here is that the Super Food Family Classics, as the name implies, is much more directed to family meals. With an ever-full house and a family of four brothers and seven nephews this book is a precious help, believe me! :)

The book is divided into 9 chapters:
Breakfast - with deliciously healthy and colorful solutions for the whole family;
Quick-fixes - with quick dishes for the days when we have no time or inspiration for more;
Healthy Classics - with all those classic family food with a healthy twist;
Salads - because there is no family meal worth its salt without a big bowl of salad;
Stews and curries - because it's time to modernize grandmother stews !;
Roasts - with solutions, "all aboard" in the oven;
Pasta & Risotto - with all thhe recipes that kids love;
Soups - because those who have children or children at home know that soups are indispensable;
Kitchen hacks - those little tricks that allow us to save time, money and plan meals more easily.

Each recipe has a nutritional table and the reference number of daily portions of fruit and vegetables. In the end of the book we also have the "Health and Hapiness" segment that describes the food ideology of Jamie with all key nutritional tips so that we have the expertise to do the best food choices. So I suggest you take a look at this book and, if you have that possibility, buy it. You are going to be surprised with the amount of things you can do with a little creativity and good choices! It's a win-win for all the family! ;)

Have you noticed that the little ones love cooking shows? If you have kids at home let them prepare the meals with you! I know that this can be a difficult task, especially when they are smaller and like to tinker and mix evrything, but you will create wonderful memories with the little ones while encouraging them to eat all the food they prepare, fun and no dramas.”

“Sausage Pasta, Broccoli, Chilli & Sweet Tomatoes

I had a lot of fun with this dish. Given our very busy lives, I don't get to try something new, but we do love our life, and we take what the universe gives us. This felt like a dish I could return to, something that's easy for weeknight dinner. It didn't take very long to put together, and hey, if you do follow the recipe, there's not a lot to wash at the end either! Family classics indeed! I very much love Jamie Oliver, who has been an inspiration for me, reminding me that food does make us happy and brings us together. I can't wait to try another recipe from this book (which you can pick up via SocialBookCo)!

350g broccoli
4 chipolata sausages
1-2 fresh red chillies
olive oil
2tsp fennel seeds
4 cloves of garlic
2 onions
1/2 bunch of fresh oregano (15g)
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 x 400g tin of plum tomatoes
300g dried wholewheat tagliatelle
40g Parmesan cheese

Chop the broccoli florets off the stalk. Cut the woody end off the stalk, halve the stalk lengthways and put into a large pan of boiling salted water with the sausages and whole chilli(es). Pop the lid on, boil for 5 minutes, then remove, leaving the water on the lowest heat.

Meanwhile, chop the broccoli florets into nice bite-sized chunks and put aside for later. Once cool enough to handle, finely slice the sausages, broccoli stalk and chilli and place in a large frying pan in a medium heat with 1 tablespoon of oil, the fennel seeds and a pinch of sea salt and black pepper. Stir and fry while you peel and finely slice the garlic and onions. Once the sausage is lightly golden, stir in the garlic, followed a minute later by the onions, then pick in the oregano leaves. Cook for 15 minutes, or until softened, stirring occasionally. Add the vinegar and cook completely away, then pour in the tomatoes, breaking them up with a wooden spoon. Half-fill the tin with water, swirl around and pour into the pan. Simmer for 15 more minutes, or until thickened, then taste and season to perfection.

Meanwhile, bring the pan of water back up to boil, and cook the pasta according to the packet instructions, adding the broccoli florets for the last 4 minutes. Drain the pasta and broccoli, reserving a mugful of cooking water. Toss through the sauce, loosening with a little reserved water if needed. Finely grate in most of the Parmesan and toss together, then serve with the rest of the Parmesan grated over the top.
